A Bloomfield Collaboration in the Making: Lavender Wine with Acres Away Winery

Some of the best ideas begin slowly.

Long before there was a bottle, a label, or even a finished blend, there were conversations, shared curiosity, and the simple joy of learning from each other.

Over the past year, Bloomfield Schoolhouse Lavender has been working with our friends at Acres Away Winery in Ashley, Indiana to explore something special. Together we set out to create a handcrafted white wine infused with Bloomfield-grown lavender.

A Shared Love of Craft and Place

Last summer we spent hours wandering the grounds at Acres Away Winery. We talked about lavender and wine, shared stories about how each of our businesses began, and learned more about the care that goes into every bottle they produce.

Those conversations became the beginning of this collaboration.

From the start, it felt natural. Both of our businesses are rooted in craftsmanship, small-batch production, and a deep appreciation for the land and community that surround us.

Throughout the year we met during different seasons. There were winter planning meetings, summer brainstorming sessions, and plenty of time simply exchanging ideas. Little by little those conversations turned into something real.

A Full-Circle Moment

For Bloomfield founder Marion Wiggins, the collaboration carries an even deeper meaning.

Greg and I became total wine people when we lived in Fredericksburg. We learned to love really good wine and even got married at a winery.

The first time we tasted Acres Away, we were hooked.

Now getting to work with Shane and Kirk to create a sophisticated lavender wine of our own honestly feels surreal. It is one of those full-circle moments you do not see coming, and we could not be more excited about it.

Shane, owner of Acres Away Winery, and head winemaker Kirk worked closely with us to develop a blend that feels true to both of our brands.

Finding the Right Blend

Recently we gathered around the tasting table with the Acres Away team to sample several test blends.

Our goal was simple. We wanted something that felt true to Bloomfield. Clean. Balanced. Rooted in the natural beauty of lavender.

After careful tasting and discussion, we landed on a refreshing white wine infused with lavender grown right here at Bloomfield Schoolhouse Lavender. The lavender adds a soft floral note that complements the wine without overwhelming it.

The result is a wine that feels perfect for warm evenings, summer dinners, and relaxed gatherings with friends.

What Does Lavender Wine Taste Like?

Lavender wine often surprises people.

When used thoughtfully, lavender does not overpower the wine or make it taste like perfume. Instead, it adds a gentle floral note that softens the wine and creates a subtle sense of aroma and brightness.

In this blend, the lavender complements the white wine rather than competing with it. The result is clean and refreshing with a light floral character that lingers just enough to make it memorable.

It is the kind of wine that feels perfect on a warm evening, shared with friends, enjoyed slowly, and paired with simple summer foods.

Our goal was always balance. We wanted the lavender to feel present, but never overwhelming. The final blend captures that beautifully.

Rooted in the Bloomfield Story

Our mission has always centered on stewardship. We work to restore and preserve the schoolhouse, care for the land, and craft small-batch products that support everyday well-being.

This wine reflects those same values.

Like our lavender body care, culinary products, and seasonal goods, this collaboration is thoughtfully made, rooted in natural ingredients, and created in partnership with people who care deeply about their craft.

A Spring Release

The Bloomfield lavender wine is expected to be released in mid-April, just as spring begins to settle in here in LaGrange County.

We will be sharing more details soon, including the final name, label design, and upcoming events where you will be able to experience it with us.

For now, we are simply grateful for the journey that brought us here and for the friendships and collaboration that made it possible.
