Behind every vision is someone willing to help build it. Meet Greg Wiggins, Marion's husband, a former Marine, a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and the quiet force behind so much of what makes Bloomfield run. Plus the story behind Silent Night, the sleep spray he developed.
The Rock Behind Bloomfield: Meet Greg Wiggins
When people visit Bloomfield Schoolhouse Lavender, they often meet me first. I'm the one behind many of our recipes, the one who sees possibilities where others see old buildings and empty fields.
But every vision needs someone willing to help build it.
For our family, that's Greg.
Bloomfield has never been my business or Greg's business. It has always been our family's business. We each bring different strengths, and together we've built something neither of us could have accomplished alone.
A Family-Built Business
If I dream it, Greg helps make it happen.
He helps manufacture products, plants and harvests lavender, bundles thousands of stems each season, tackles renovation projects, coordinates with contractors, meets with bankers, and somehow still finds time to shuttle three busy children from one activity to the next, cook dinner, and jump into whatever task needs attention that day.
While I focus on product development and creative direction, Greg often steps back to look at the bigger picture. How do we grow? What's the next opportunity? How do we finance expansion responsibly? Which investments today will position Bloomfield for the next ten years?
That long-term perspective has become one of Bloomfield's greatest strengths.
A Marine's Mindset
Long before lavender fields, Greg served in the United States Marine Corps.
The Marines teach discipline, adaptability, and mission-first thinking. Those lessons have never left him.
Business ownership rarely follows a straight path. Markets change. Equipment breaks. Crops don't always cooperate. Plans evolve. Greg doesn't see dead ends. He sees opportunities to pivot. If something isn't working, he learns, adapts, and tries another approach. That mindset has helped Bloomfield navigate challenges while continuing to grow.
The Marine Corps also instilled routines that translate naturally into healthy living. Structure, consistency, and the understanding that small daily habits create long-term success. Those same principles became part of the philosophy behind Silent Night.
Understanding the Value of Rest
Greg's professional life has given him another perspective that few wellness founders have.
As a nurse and now a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, he's spent years working nights, taking call, functioning on limited sleep, and caring for patients through some of the most stressful moments of their lives.
He knows firsthand what chronic sleep deprivation feels like. He understands how difficult it can be to quiet a racing mind after a demanding day.
His background in chemistry and nursing brought a practical, evidence-informed perspective to product development. Rather than chasing trends, he wanted products that fit into a healthy bedtime routine and helped create an environment that encourages relaxation.
Silent Night was never intended to replace good sleep habits. It was designed to become part of them.
Why Silent Night Exists
The goal was simple. Create a bedtime ritual that helps people fall asleep faster and enjoy a restful night's sleep, without the grogginess or unwanted side effects often associated with sleep medications.
When we finished our first batches, we did what we've always done with new products. We handed them to people we trusted.
Greg shared them with fellow nurses and healthcare professionals. I shared them with friends, fellow business owners, and busy moms.
The response surprised us. People came back asking for more. They told us it had become part of their nightly routine.
Those early conversations gave us the confidence that Silent Night might become something much bigger than another lavender spray.
The Rock of Bloomfield
People often ask how we've been able to grow so quickly. The answer is simple. We rely on each other.
When I'm overwhelmed, Greg steps in. He makes products. He takes over with the kids. He harvests lavender. He packages orders. He fixes equipment. He solves problems. He lightens the load wherever it's needed.
Financially, Greg has made enormous sacrifices to help Bloomfield grow. He continues to work two jobs, often beginning his day at 5:00 a.m. providing anesthesia care and ending it late in the evening bundling lavender, making products, reviewing budgets, meeting with contractors, or planning the next stage of expansion.
Much of that extra work has one purpose. To reinvest in Bloomfield. It helps hire employees. It funds marketing. It supports new equipment. It finances growth that allows the business to become stronger every year.
This past year, he took only one week away from work to attend my college reunion. Otherwise, vacation waits. Lavender season doesn't.
As a family, we've traded summer vacations for harvests, festivals, product launches, and dreams that are slowly becoming reality.
Even the Aromadillo Has a Story
If you've visited the Apothecary, you may have noticed a stuffed armadillo tucked among the displays.
Greg jokingly calls it the "Aromadillo."
When I asked why it belonged in the shop, his answer was simple. "There wasn't anything in here that was mine."
It has become one of those small family stories that reminds us not to take ourselves too seriously. Every family business needs a little humor.
More Than a Bottle
When someone sprays Silent Night onto their pillow, we hope they're transported somewhere peaceful.
A cool breeze drifting across blooming lavender fields. Freshly washed sheets. A quiet room. A deep breath. The feeling that, for just a few moments, the world can wait until tomorrow.
That's what Silent Night represents to us. Not just better sleep. A better ending to the day.
Because Bloomfield has always been about more than lavender. It's about preserving history, restoring a 1904 schoolhouse, building something meaningful for our children, creating products we're proud to put our name on, and helping people discover a little more peace in the middle of busy lives.
We're creating a place where history, family, and wellness come together. A place where visitors can slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect with what matters most.
And behind every lavender field, every bottle, every restoration project, and every dream is a husband and wife working side by side. One creating the vision, the other helping make sure it becomes reality.
Greg often says his role is simply to support me in my endeavors.
The truth is, Bloomfield wouldn't be Bloomfield without both of us.
With warmth,
Marion
